File Types.txt
==============

This file explains which file types are used by the
applications in PTS Toolkit.

A "file type" is the three letter extension used by Windows
to understand what the file contains. For example .TXT means
a plain text file, .DOC is a WORD document and .EXE is an
application.

Often the word "association" is used to describe the connection
between a file type and the application it belongs to. This
is achieved by a system of "registration". There is another
read me file detailing the registration performed by this
toolkit.

.MAP

This is used for PTS map data files and contains a single
column of numbers. This file type is never registered (see
other read me files about this).

.PAN

This is used for PTS Operator Panel Files (all types of Mini
and Operators panels). This file type is registered with
OpPan16.EXE when the toolkit is installed.

.PTS

This is used for PTS programme files and is registered with
PTSEdit.EXE. There is an option in the options dialog (tools
menu) of PTS Editor to remove this association.

.SHP

This is used for PTS map shape files. This file type is
registered with Mot16.EXE when the toolkit is installed.

.TRA

This is used for PTS 'scope data files. It is registered with
PTSScope.EXE. There is an option in the options dialog (tools
menu) of PTS Scope to remove this association.
